The Queen’s Gambit QuizWouldn't it be much nicer if the world was all about monochromes-black and white? No shades of grey and no complications?
Well, that is what Elizabeth Harmon feels in Netflix's trending show The Queen's Gambit (at least before her complacency hits. Ouch?). This is where her world revolves around the 64 black and white squares of the chessboard.
The Queen's Gambit is a show about an orphaned prodigy who climbs up the ladder in the world of chess, one 'move' at a time. It hits the right chord with an audience of current times rooting to smash the patriarchy. ‘You think a girl can’t do it? Ha! Just trade the rooks, literally.’ No wonder it is in the top 10 shows of Netflix right now.
Set in the 1960s, a 9-year-old Beth learns the nuances of the sport from a janitor only to surprise everyone at the orphanage. As her brilliance travels places, she not only gets fame but even a new family in the name of a single mother.
Bad habits like using tranquilizers also play a part in her journey. Oops!
Amongst various other characters, the prominent character in the show is a veteran player Benny Watts. He finds the fault in our ‘perfect Queen's gambit' by showing her the other side of the coin (read defeat and lessons). Also, guides her to play against the one she fears the most- a Russian player Borgov, to be named a woman 'Grandmaster.'
Time and again, the show talk about how the girl rise high, falls to the bottom, and again rises to the acme of success after defeating her fears and shortcomings. How she conquers a traumatizing past of being abandoned by a dead biological mother, channelizes her loneliness, and eventually emerges as one of the bests of the game is beautifully entailed in a string of just 7 episodes. Truly an inspiration for all the girls out there! You might shout, "I watched the show this weekend, and it's no big deal,” but did you capture the minutest details like our protagonist Beth? If yes, time to take this quiz.
